Base organics are made up of non-living organic compounds which are considered to be the building blocks of life. They can arise through standard chemical means, but have not yet organised into living matter.
Generally, base organics are a mixture of amino acids, proteins and possibly some protobionts.
Can be used as a food source after processing, but considered very poor quality and requires at least TL9+ for any degree of efficiency.
The next level up in the evolution of life are considered Simple Organics.
